Summer is an amazing time
in New England. The winter blizzards and freezing temperatures are
gone leaving in its place green lawns, lush gardens, family trips and
more importantly warm sandy beaches.
Each
year, tens of thousands of people flock to the beach on a daily basis
to soak up the sun, play frisbee or swim in the cool clean waters of
the Atlantic Ocean.
Revere Beach,
for example is America's Oldest public beach, which celebrated its'
centennial in 1996. Massachusetts has well over 150 public beaches
all in need of lifeguards.
Each year the Department of
Conservation and Recreation (DCR, formerly known
as the Metropolitan District Commission) is in need of qualified
lifeguards to watch over these people and ensure their safety.
The Red Cross Lifeguard certification
is not just limited to working at a beach. All year round employers
are looking for well trained, qualified lifeguards. Other employment
venues include, private functions, DCR Swimming Pools, water amusement
parks, theme parks such as Six Flags and Canobie Lake, lifeguard certification
is also the primary pre-requisite for Water Safety Instructor certification.
